Liveblog
September 2019
Myke and Jason put on a great episode of Upgrade about the #iPhone2019 event yesterday, including what was missing. |
The configurators are live! |
That's it. Thanks for reading! |
The iPhone 7 has been discontinued, but the 8 and XR are actually here to stay. |
iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999, and Pro Max starts at $1099. They'll ship in 10 days. |
The Photos app gets video editing. Finally! |
The iPhone 11 Pro has a 4x optical zoom range. |
The "iPhone 11 Pro Max" (that's a mouthful) has a 6.5 inch screen, which is 0.3 inches more than its predecessor (the iPhone XS Max). |
The iPhone 11 Pro's max brightness is nearly two-and-a-half times brighter than my laptop, at 1,200 nits. It's like the $6,000 monitor from June, but with a free phone attached! |
The quad-core "iPhone 11 Pro" has three cameras and comes in midnight green, space gray, silver, and gold. |
iPhone 11 starts at $699. |
The new processor? The A13 Bionic. #iPhone2019 |
The front-facing selfie camera can capture 12 megapixels in landscape mode, slow-motion video, and 4K@60fps. |
Now there's a high key mono effect, automatic night mode, and the ultrawide lens is accessible with a simple zoom gesture. Holding the photo button can now instantly start a video. |
With the ultrawide lens, you can zoom outside of the frame before you snap a photo. |
The iPhone 11 has an LCD display, which means the "Pro" version will probably be OLED. This smells like a great XR replacement. |
It has two back cameras. |
Apple Watch Series 3 will now start at $199. |
Series 5 also has a compass, international emergency calling on cellular models, is made of recycled aluminum, comes in titanium or ceramic, and will be available in 10 days. |
The Apple Watch Series 5 display is Always-On, just at a slightly dimmed brightness level. |
The 7th generation entry-level iPad is 10.2 inches, supports the Smart Keyboard, is made of recycled aluminum (like the recent MacBooks), and starts at $300 for students. iPad Pro features have been working their way down the lineup pretty quickly! |
What a terrible time for the Internet to cut out. |
Unleash the press releases! |
Apple TV+ will launch on November 1st, for $4.99 per month, with Family Sharing. Hardware purchases include a year of membership. Now I'm convinced that the only reason Apple Music is $10 is licensing agreements. |
Apple Arcade will be in its own tab in the App Store, Konami, Capcom, and Annapurna Interactive did some on-stage demos, it'll launch on September 19th, it'll cost $4.99 per month (with Family Sharing), and there will be a 1 month free trial. |
Aha. The intro video starts with references to Touch ID and Face ID (dual-biometric auth), along with HomePod (a cheaper one) and Apple Watch (Series 5). Why does the single camera coral XR make an appearance though? |
Want to buy an iPhone 7 or 8? No soup for you. |
So the theme is glass jelly. The colors oscillate between magenta, grayscale, and bright colors. |
I think a great way to test this new setup is by liveblogging the #iPhone2019 Apple event on Tuesday morning. |
